Captain Alvaro R. Gomez, USN
Captain Alvaro R. Gomez was borm 27 September 1936 in Brooklyn, New York and is
a native of Hempstead, New York. He graduated from St. John's University in 1957 and
received a Master of Science Degree from George Washington University in 1958. Captain
Gomez was commissioned an Ensign from Officer Candidate School, Newport Rhode Island on 1 May
1959. He was promoted to Captain on 1 August 1980.
Captain Gomez is a proven subspecialist
in Communications and Manpower-Personnel Management and his previous assignments were as follows,
USS Saratoga (CV-60) 1959-1960, USS Eunice (PCE-846 1960-1961, USS Dahlgren (DLG/CG-12) 1962-
1063, Cruiser Destroyer Flotilla SIX 1963-1964, USS Josephus Daniels (DLG/CG-27 1969-1971),
USS Damato (DD-871) 1971-1972, USS Richard L. Page (FFG-5) 1975-1977, Cruiser Destroyer Group TWO.
Captain Gomez's shore assignments included Fleet Training Group TWO 1961-1962, OPNAV (op 943)
COMNAVTELCOM 1966-1968, DCA RVN/THAI 1968-1969, SACLANT 1972-1974, NAVCAMSLANT 1977-1978
BUPERS/OPNAV (OP 13) 1978-1982.
Captain Gomez is married to the former Carol Zamanski of Elizabeth, New Jersey. They have
four children, Thomas, Robert, Kathryn and John.
