Captain Louis F. Harlow, Jr., USN

Captain Harlow graduated at Fort Schuyler, Class of 1968.  Captain Harlow served in his first naval ship, USS Charles R. Ware (DD-865) as Navigator and Gunnery Assistant.  In 1974, after attending Surface Warfare School, he joined USS Ainsworth (FF-1090) as Chief Engineer.  This tour included a cruise around South America and deployments to the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.  He transferred in July 1976 to serve on the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron Two as Material Officer completing deployments to the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.  

Captain Harlow then attended the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey where he received a Master's degree in Financial Management.  In 1980, he reported to USS Vreeland (FF-1086) as Executive Officer.  The ship deployed to the Mediterranean and Northern Europe during during this tour.  Additionally, the Vreeland underwent a major overhaul in Bath, ME.  Captain Harlow transferred in October, 1981 to the Defense Communications Agency in Washington, D.C. as the Comptroller, Command and Control Engineering Center.  During this time, he completed the Naval War College Off-Campus program and became a proved sub-specialist in financial management.  The shore assignment period also included the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C.  Captain Harlow took command of the USS Caron (DD-970) in December, 1985 during her Mediterranean deployment serving as Flagship for Commander Destroyer Squadron Twenty.  In September, 1987, Caron again deployed to the Meditrranean and served as Flagship for Commander Squadron Twenty-four.

In May 1988, Captain Harlow reported to the staff of Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Squadron Eight.  During this tour he deployed to the Mediterranean while serving as Operations and Plans Officer. Captain Harlow took command of the Biddle in September 1989. During this tour the Biddle was deployed to the Red Sea in support of OPeration Desert Shield and Desert Storm.  Captain Harlow transferred in May 1992 to the Office of the Undersecretary of the Navy (Financial).

He is married to the former Katherine Marie Frerichs of New York, NY.  Captain and Mrs. Harlow have three children, Kristina, Linda and Stephen.
