Captain Albert L. Henry, Jr., USN
Captain Albert L. Henry,Jr. U S Navy (Retired) was born on June 8,1935, in Atlanta, Georgia.
He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1956, the youngest member of the class. Sea assignments:
USS BREMERTON ( CA-130) ; gun boss and senior watch officer, USS GEARING (DD-710); Commanding Officer,
USS SENECA (ATF-91); Executive Officer, USS W. C. LAWE (DD-763); Commander River Assault Squadron 15
in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam; Commissioning Commanding Officer, USS OUELLET (DE-1077);
7th Commanding Officer, USS BIDDLE (CG-34).
Shore Assignments: Aide and Flag Lt. to the Commander, Charleston Naval Shipyard; Long-range
Strategic Plans Officer in OP-605; Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans, Commander Naval Forces Vietnam
staff; Administrative Assistant to the Commander, Naval Recruiting Command during the transition to the
All Volunteer Force.
Captain Henry received the following awards during his Naval career: Legion of Merit (BIDDLE);
Legion of Merit with Combat "V", Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", and the Army Commendation Medal
(Vietnam); Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" (Ouellet); Meritorious Service Medal (Navy Recruiting Command);
Navy Commendation Medal (OP-605).
In addition to a BS degree from the US Naval Academy, he received an MS In Management from the US Naval
Postgraduate School and, after retirement, a Master of Education Degree and an Education Specialist Degree from
West Georgia College. He graduated from the National War College in 1976.
After retirement from the Navy in 1978, Captain Henry taught math and was a high school guidance counselor
Newnan High School in Newnan, Georgia. He retired from teaching in 1997. He and his wife,
Shelby, now live in Hendersonville, North Carolina. They have two grown daughters.
