Captain Christopher
Charles Cain, United States Navy, was born in Canton,
Ohio on 16 July 1955. He graduated from the United
States Naval Academy and was commissioned as an
Ensign on 8 June 1977.
He was assigned to
the nuclear powered cruiser USS TEXAS (CGN 39) from
1979 to 1981 as Repair and Auxiliary Division Officer
where he qualified as Surface Warfare Officer.
Significant deployments were to the North Atlantic
and the Mediterranean.
Captain Cain was
assigned to the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) from 1981 to 1983 as
Chemistry and Radiological Controls Assistant and
Reactor Mechanical Assistant where he completed
qualification as Engineer, qualified to operate and
maintain naval nuclear propulsion plants. Significant
"IKE" deployments were to the North
Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
Returning to the U.S.
Naval Academy, Captain Cain served as Academic Year
Company Officer, Plebe Summer Company Officer and
Plebe Summer Administrative Officer, graduating 9th
Companys Classes of 1984 and 1985.
Captain Cain served
as Operations Officer in USS DONALD B. BEARY (FF
1085) from 1986 to 1987. DONALD B. BEARY conducted
anti-submarine patrols in the North Atlantic and
deployed to the Mediterranean. In the fall of 1987 he
reported to the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS
THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) as Reactor Electrical
Assistant, where he made TR's first deployment to the
Mediterranean as well as a North Atlantic deployment.
He reported to the
staff of Commander in Chief, U. S. Atlantic Fleet in
November 1989 for duty with the Naval Nuclear
Propulsion Examining Board. As a junior Board member,
he inspected nuclear propulsion plant operations and
administration in over 70 nuclear submarines and
surface ships.
Captain Cain reported
to USS BIDDLE (CG 34) in March 1992 as Executive
Officer. BIDDLE deployed to the Mediterranean and
conducted Counter-Drug Operations in the Caribbean
and Eastern Pacific. Captain Cain presided over the
decommissioning ceremony for USS BIDDLE on 30
November 1993.
He reported for duty
with the Operations Directorate of the staff of
Commander in Chief, U. S. Atlantic Fleet in January
1994, serving as Fleet Surface Operations, Current
Operations and Scheduling Officer, as well as four
months as acting Director, Fleet Operations Division.
Captain Cain relieved
as Commanding Officer USS CLARK (FFG 11) in June
1996. CLARK completed a four-month Counter-Drug
Operations deployment and participated in several
joint and combined naval exercises.
He reported to his
final sea tour in April 1998, serving as Reactor
Officer in USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73). GW
completed a nine-month docking planned incremental
availability at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and a
deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian
Gulf.
Captain Cain reported
to the Program Executive Office for Aircraft Carriers
in February 2001 where he served one year as Chief of
Staff. After completing the Advanced Program
Management curriculum at Defense Acquisition
University, he assumed responsibility for the Carrier
Protection Project. He then served as Assistant
Program Manager for Modernization and Innovation in
the Aircraft Carrier Program Office (PMS 312).
Captain Cain served as Deputy Technical Director for
PEO Aircraft Carriers from March 2003 until his
retirement from active duty in December 2005.
His personal
decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit,
the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars,
the Navy Commendation Medal with one gold star and
the Navy Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
Captain Cain is
married to the former Nancy Ruth Vint of Ferndale,
Maryland. Captain and Mrs. Cain have one daughter,
Natalie.
